Obtain file of bmp picture on the screen

I have a bmp or jpg picture on the screen.
I like to create a file of the picture.
The bmp picture can be a 24 or 32 bit pixel pictures

Is there a function to do this?

There seems to be a lot of functions to draw pictures
on the screen but I don't find a way to create
a file of the picture from the screen.

Can anyone help me?
