Will GDI+ be updated to use Direct2D? Will GDI?

Will Microsoft be updating GDI+ to internally use Direct2D and DirectWrite,
if available, so that all applications can benefit from it?

Will GDI?
Can I opt into it with a manifest compatibility setting?
Is there perhaps a 3rd party out there creating their own redistributable
gdiplus.dll library that uses DirectWrite?

Is Microsoft not improving their product to make it better for everyone?

Not to sound bitter, but another way to phrase the question is: does
(the technology that could benefit from an upgrade) have .net in its name?

Is the implication there that anything Microsoft created that is called
".NET" is abandoned?

Or that anything ".NET" will definitely be maintained?
